Hofstra Club Ice Hockey traveled to Parkwood, New York, on Saturday, November 11^th to take on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Despite a goal from Brandon Fauci, the Pride fell to Kings Point by a score of 4-1.

On Sunday, November 20^th, Hofstra hosted Columbia University at the Northwell Health Ice Center at Eisenhower Park for Senior Night. The Pride honored seniors Giuseppe Chiaraville and David Craig for their hard work and dedication that they put towards the team over their four years with the Pride. The team also commemorated Joey Comunale, an alumni player who was killed on Saturday, November 12^th. Columbia would score first but Hofstra answered quickly with a goal from Giuseppe Chiaraville to take the game into the second tied at one. Once again, in the second period, Columbia would score to take the lead, followed by a score from Hofstra’s Eli Vaillancourt, to even it at two heading into the third period. To start the third period, Nick Lewis would score on the power play for the Pride to take a 3-2 lead. Vincent Luna and Eli Vaillancourt would add two more goals for Hofstra to put Columbia away by a score of 5-2. The Pride improved their record to 3-7-1 on the season.

Hofstra Men’s Club Lacrosse traveled to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on the Stags of Fairfield University, on Saturday, November 19^th. The Pride came out flat to start the game but rallied n the second half behind attackmen Martin Beer and midfielder Mike Benvenuti, who each tallied two goals. Goalie Hunter Reynolds helped keep the score from getting out of hand with a series of remarkable saves. Unfortunately, the Pride could not keep up with the Stags and fell to Fairfield by a score of 11-6.

Hofstra Women’s Club Rugby traveled to Seekonk, Massachusetts to participate in the Cinaci 7’s tournament on Sunday, November 20^th. In their first game against Millersville University, the Pride were shutout, 15-0. In their second game against Northeastern University, the Pride won 29-0. The Pride eventually made it to the semifinal round before being eliminated.

On Saturday, November 26^th, the team headed to Randall’s Island for the New York Seven’s Tournament. The team earned a strong 4^th place finish, highlighted by an excited 19-15 victory over Ithaca College.

Hofstra Men's Club Ultimate hosted their home tournament weekend, on Saturday, November 19^th and Sunday, November 20^th. Captain Brian Kelly led the team through both days. In pool play, the team went 2-4. Ian Weimer had the highlight of the weekend with a rare Callahan, which is an interception in the end zone for an immediate score. In some very spirited games against our own alumni team, the Flying Dutchmen put up respectable performances full of great plays and solid teamwork.

Hofstra Club Baseball traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for a two game series against the Huskies of Northeastern University on Saturday, November 13^th. In the first game, the Pride held a 4-3 lead until the 4^th inning where Northeastern batted around and took a 10-4 lead that they would hold for the rest of the game. In game two, it was much of the same. The game was close to start, but the Huskies proved to be too much for the Pride. Hofstra fell to Northeastern by a score of 11-4.

Club Sports Student Athlete of the Week

Katie Tomasino-Club Equestrian-Sophomore-Finance-Port Washington, NY

During the fall season, Tomasino showed excellent progress competing in the Walk Trot Canter class. Beginning at the St. Joseph's College Home Show on Sunday, October 2^nd she placed 1^st in the beginner Walk Trot Canter class. At Hofstra's Home Show on Sunday, October 23^rd, Tomasino finished 2^nd in her Walk Trot Canter class. Her skills continued to improve as she took 1^st in her Walk Trot Canter class at the horse show at the Thomas School of Horsemanship on Sunday, October 30^th. Tomasino is a dedicated member of Hofstra Club Equestrian and will look to build on her strong season next semester.

Hofstra Club Ice Hockey hosted the Kings Point Mariners at the Northwell Health Ice Center at Eisenhower Park on Saturday, November 12^th. The first period was evenly played, with the Pride scoring first. The Mariners would answer and the first period ended with the score tied at one apiece.  The second period was plagued with penalties, but despite the slower play, the Pride would score twice to take a 3-1 lead into the final period of play. The third period proved to be erratic and unpredictable. The Mariners flew out of the gates to score three goals and take a 4-3 lead. The Pride wouldn’t fold, and fought to keep the score even. With the game tied at 7, Hofstra and Kings Point headed to overtime. Only 23 seconds into the overtime period, Joe Grice was able to put one by the Mariners’ goalie for his fifth goal to secure the 8-7 victory for the Pride.

Hofstra Women’s Club Ultimate Frisbee traveled to Newtown, Pennsylvania to participate in a tournament on Saturday, November 12^th and Sunday, November 13^th. On Saturday, the Pride lost to The College of New Jersey, 12-10, University of Valley Forge, 11-4, and the University of Rochester, 12-4. On the first day of the tournament, Hofstra managed to best Princeton University’s B team by a score of 12-2. The second day of the tournament fared much better for the Pride. Hofstra was able to beat Rowan University, 13-1, Northeastern University, 13-1, and The College of New Jersey, 8-5. This was the final tournament for Hofstra during the fall semester and the team is looking forward to the upcoming spring season.

Hofstra Club Quidditch ventured out east to Stony Brook University on Sunday, November 13^th to compete in the “Officially BAQC At It” tournament. Hofstra was able to pull out victories against Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, 90-70*, and against New York University, 100-50*, (*indicates a snitch catch). Stephen Daly stood out for the Pride by scoring 60 total goals throughout the tournament.

Hofstra Club Softball played their first ever home series against the University of Connecticut at Bill Edwards Stadium, here at Hofstra University, on Sunday, November 13^th. The Huskies and the Pride would split the first two games of their triple-header, with UConn winning the first 13-3, and Hofstra winning the second 11-8. In the rubber game of the series, UConn would come out victorious scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away, winning 10-1.

Hofstra Club Equestrian competed in the LIU Post Horse Show at the North Shore Equestrian Center in Greenvale, New York on Sunday, November 13^th. Captain Maria Sorrentino placed 6^th in both over fences and in flat class. Captain Kate Milford had a beautiful ride over fences, earning a 3^rd place finish in her class. Walk trot canter riders, Meghan Tierney and Katie Tomasino, both had great rides in their classes, Tierney placed 6^th in her class.

In Hofstra’s thrilling 8-7 victory over Kings Point, Grice scored 5 goals, including the game winner just 23 seconds into overtime.
