Club Sports Roundup



Club Ice Hockey hosted the reigning Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference Champion Ramapo College Roadrunners on Friday, December 1st at the Northwell Health Ice Center in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New York.  Ramapo scored an early first period goal, but the Pride quickly answered with a power play goal by Eli Vaillancourt to tie the score 1-1.  Andrew Gagnon would score a second power play goal for the Pride to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.  Ramapo would tie the game and then take the lead in the second, but Andrew Gagnon would score his second goal of the game to tie the game at 3 entering the final period of play.  Chris Serio would notch the game winning goal for Hofstra, and the Pride would seal the victory with two empty net goals to take a 6-3 win over Ramapo.

The Pride were back in action at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon, New York on Saturday, December 2nd to take on the Rams of Fordham University.  Behind a goal from Joe Grice, the Pride would enter the second period all square with the Rams 1-1. Fordham would notch three goals in the second to take a commanding 4-1 lead.  Matt McGuirk would add a goal for Hofstra, but it wasn't enough as Fordham snapped Hofstra's 4-game winning streak with a 6-2 win.

Club Billiards competed in their final weekly match of the regular season before playoffs at Raxx Pool Hall in West Hempstead, New York on Sunday, December 3rd. Overall, the team tied their match 6-6.  The Pride finished the season in 2nd place and the upcoming two weeks of playoffs will determine if the team qualifies for the TriCup tournament in February.

Club Quidditch hosted their 4th Annual Festivus Fantasy Tournament on Saturday, December 9th on the Intramural Fields of Hofstra University.  There were 55 players in attendance from the local schools such as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Stony Brook University and Macaulay Honors College.  The individual players were drafted onto teams for a fun and stress-free tournament.  Despite the snowfall, the tournament ran smoothly.

Club Rock Climbing traveled to Brooklyn Boulders in Queensbridge, New York on Saturday, December 9th for their weekly climb.

Club Men's Soccer took on the Tigers of Princeton University on Sunday, December 3rd at Campbell-Finnery Field in Princeton, New Jersey.  The Pride fell to the Tigers by a score of 4-0.

Under McGuire’s leadership, Hofstra Billiards has seen tremendous success and growth during this semester. He led the team to a 2nd place conference finish with an 11-3 individual league match record. Colin will look to continue to help the team ride their current wave of momentum and secure the Pride a spot in the TriCup Tournament.
