Club Sports Roundup


Women’s Club Lacrosse hosted New York University and Stony Brook University on Saturday, October 20th at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium in the 3rd Annual Marc Sieben Tournament. In their first game, Hofstra defeated NYU 13-6, thanks to a pair of goals each from Mikayla Ruthig, Haylee Molloy, Alyssa Murphy and Jenn Farrar. Hofstra would go on to defeat Stony Brook 8-6 in their second game, behind a hat trick from Zoe Szczotka. Jessie Allendorf and Allison Shamir each added 2 goals to fuel the victory. To cap of the day, Hofstra played their Alumni team in a fun and entertaining game.
Women's Club Lacrosse celebrated their two big wins at the 3rd Annual Marc Sieben Tournament on Saturday, October 20th.
Club Ice Hockey pushed their MCHC record to 4-0 with a 6-3 with over SUNY Maritime on Saturday, October 20th.  Vinny Cacciatore notched two goals for the Pride, with Chris Serio, Brandon Fauci, Antonio Binotto, and Collin Ewald also scoring for Hofstra. The club’s next game is Friday, October 26th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey against Stevens Institute of Technology.

 
Club Running traveled to Jamaica, New York on Sunday, October 21st for the St. John’s University Track Club Pumpkin Challenge. The first meet of the season was cold and windy, but that didn’t stop Colleen Todd, who ran a 24:20 in the 5k, finishing 4th overall. Hofstra competed against St. John’s, Stony Brook, Columbia and Delaware and next travels to Milton, New York for the NICRA Northeast Regional Meet on Sunday, October 28th.


Club Men’s Rugby ventured to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York on Sunday, October 21st for a quarterfinal matchup in the Tri-State Rugby Conference Playoffs. Hofstra got off to a fast start behind tries from Joe Ovile and Raymond Brown, but they were not able to sustain their attack and ultimately dropped the contest by a score of 45-15, ending a successful season for the Pride.


Club Softball trekked to UMass Amherst on Sunday, October 21st to play a tripleheader. The Pride would take two out of three from the Minutewomen, with Robbi Reed’s pitching and Sara Bornstein’s bat leading the way. The club’s next series is Saturday, November 10th at Sacred Heart University.



Club Climbing traveled to Gardiner, New York for a weekend long outdoor camping trip beginning on Friday, October 19th.  The club was able to try many of the outdoor courses and scrambled on some of the boulders to experience the outdoor setting. Overall, 14 members attended the successful trip.



Club Equestrian voyaged to the Old Towne Equestrian Center in Selden, New York on Sunday, October 21st for a show hosted by Stony Brook University. Lauren Jenkins finished 5th in the beginner walk trot canter, Purva Chavda finished 3rd in the walk trot and Katie Rozek finished 1st in novice fences and 5th in novice flat. The club’s next show is Sunday, October 28th at the Thomas School of Horsemanship hosted by Molloy College.


Women’s Club Soccer visited neighboring Adelphi University on Sunday, October 21st and fell by a score of 3-1. Daria Valan was the goal scorer for the Pride. Hofstra wraps up their fall season with a home game at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium against St. John’s University on Sunday, October 28th.


Club Bowling visited AMF Garden City Lanes on Tuesday, October 23rd. 12 members attended, and Nikhil Nair bowled the best overall score for the night with a gross total of 312 pins.

Vinny Cacciatore-Club Ice Hockey-Freshman-Finance-Merrick, NY


Cacciatore scored two goals to lead Hofstra to a 6-3 victory over SUNY Maritime, pushing the Pride's record to 4-0 in the MCHC.

Club Sports Roundup


Club Ice Hockey traveled to Sport-O-Rama in Monsey, New York to play St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, October 12th. The Pride would claim a 3-2 victory behind goals from Andrew Gagnon, Joe Grice, and Brandon Fauci.  
 
The Pride were right back at it on Saturday, October 13th as they traveled to Dix Hills, New York for a match-up against Suffolk County Community College. Hofstra would again emerge victorious by a score of 3-2, with the scoring being provided on this day by David Frattaroli, Michael Sweeney, and Eli Vaillancourt.
Hofstra pushed their MCHC conference record to 3-0 with a 3-2 win over Suffolk County Community College on Saturday, October 13th.

Club Rock Climbing took their weekly trip to the Gravity Vault in Melville on Friday, October 12th, with 25 climbers in attendance. On Saturday, October 13th the club attended Rocktoberfest at Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge to compete in their first ever competition. Ryan Kozhimala ranked 4th for Male beginners, Natalie Lorenzo placed 13th for Female Intermediate and Juan Fuentes placed 45th for Male Advanced.

Club Equestrian visited the Bergen Equestrian Center on Sunday, October 14th for a show hosted by Columbia University. Katie Rozek finished 1st in novice fences, Kate Milford finished 4th in novice flat, Purva Chavda placed 4th in walk trot and Tekla Simon placed 6th in walk trot.

Club Roller Hockey traveled to Warwick, Rhode Island on Saturday, October 13th to participate in an Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association Tournament. In the first game, Hofstra defeated Syracuse University 4-3, with goals coming from Andrew Gagnon, Shaun Randazzo, Nicholas Powers and Richard Boudreau. Game two would see Hofstra fall to Cornell University 6-1, with the lone Pride goal coming from William Spisak. In the final game of the tournament on Sunday, October 14th, Hofstra defeated Boston University by a score of 6-2. Andrew Gagnon scored 4 goals in the win. 

Chris Dellavechia posted 27 saves in Hofstra Roller Hockey's 4-3 win over Syracuse University on Saturday, October 13th.

Club Softball traveled to Wilmington, Delaware to participate in the First State Showdown on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th. In their first game, Hofstra defeated the University of Pittsburgh 7-4, behind the strong pitching of Robbi Reed and home runs from Sara Bornstein and Aly Morganelli. The team would lose their second game to the University of Delaware 11-7, and drop the final game of the tournament to James Madison University 9-7, despite another long home run from Aly Morganelli.

Women’s Club Soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to Montclair State University on Saturday, October 13th at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Hasseena Lamousnery scored the lone goal for the Pride. The team is next in action on Friday, October 19th at TCNJ.

Club Quidditch hosted their Oktoberfest tournament on the Hofstra Intramural Fields on Saturday, October 13th. Hofstra would lose all three of their games to the University of Virginia, Boston University, and RIT. NYU ultimately claimed the tournament championship by defeating UVA.

Club Women’s Rugby traveled to Stony Brook University on Sunday, October 14th for a first round Tri-State Rugby Conference playoff match and ultimately came up short, losing by a score of 69-17.  

Club Men’s Lacrosse hosted New York University on Wednesday, October 17th at Shuart Stadium. Hofstra dominated the action all night long and came away with a big 10-6 win, with Michael Moses recording a hat trick for the Pride.
