Club Sports Roundup

On Tuesday, February, 7th, the Tri-State Rugby Conference named four Hofstra University Men’s and Women’s Club Rugby players to their All-Conference Team.

Congratulations to Josh Beck, Tayab Kirmani, Leah Bodh, and Gabby Johns!

Hofstra Club Ice Hockey hosted the undefeated Fordham Rams on Saturday, February 4th at Northwell Health Ice Center.  In the first period, Fordham jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Andrew Gagnon put the Pride on the board with nineteen seconds left in the first to cut the lead 2-1. Hofstra would begin the second period much stronger. They quickly scored two goals to take a 3-2 lead; both scored by Elijah Vaillancourt.  By the end of the second period, Fordham would answer with two goals of their own taking a 4-3 lead into the third period. With heavy offensive pressure by the Rams, they would add another three goals while the Pride fell silent. Fordham beat Hofstra by a score of 7-3.

On Friday, February 10th, the Pride traveled to Newark, New Jersey to take on Stevens Institute of Technology for the last game of the season at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at the Prudential Center; home of the New Jersey Devils. Brandon Fauci scored two goals in the first period to give the Pride an early 2-0 lead. Hofstra wouldn't score in the second period, but only allowed one goal to head into the third period up 2-1. Halfway through the final period, Stevens would score to tie the game. Andrew Gagnon would quickly respond for the Pride, which would then be answered by Stevens to knot the game at three goals a piece forcing the game into overtime. Just a minute into overtime, Stevens would score the game winner to defeat the Pride.

Hofstra finished the 2016-2017 regular season with a record of 3-9-2.
