Club Sports Roundup



Hofstra Men’s Club Soccer kicked off their 2015 season with a brilliant home win over Fordham on a Sunday, March 29th at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Late in the first half, Samuel Palacio broke through three defenders before coolly chipping the keeper for a bar and in finish. Arthur Ascarateil provided the insurance goal in the second half, punctuating a 2-0 victory for The Pride.

Hofstra Women’s Club Lacrosse toasted their penultimate conference game with a win on Thursday, March 26th defeating NYU 13-6 and taking their season record to 5-2. Saturday, March 28th marked senior night for the team, and their winning streak continued with a hard fought 11-7 victory over Fordham. Hofstra’s 6-2 winning record has earned them the second seed in the conference, and the squad will learn their playoff fate after Spring Break.

Hofstra Men’s Club Lacrosse went 1-1 in their Round Robin with UMass and St. Joe’s on Sunday, March 29th at Shuart Stadium. Hofstra defeated UMass 8-3 before narrowly missing out on a win against SJU in an 8-6 loss. Joe Baker, EJ Audibert, Bryce Pate, Martin Beer, Colin Tomaselli-Greenslade, Joey Parisi, and John Van Fossen all registered points for The Pride, who were back in action just four days later, notching an 11-1 home win over Stony Brook on Thursday, April 2nd.

Hofstra Men's Club Lacrosse dedicated their 11-1 victory over Stony Brook to former teammate Joe Ferriso, who passed away in a car accident earlier this year.


Hofstra Club Baseball finally made it out onto the field this past weekend after weeks of being struck out by snow. The Pride played a three game series against Rutgers winning two (14-11 & 9-3) and losing one (5-3). Joe Zapata, Justin Cusano, and Mike Ahrens provided some standout pitching performances, while the big hits came courtesy of Nick Cavallino, Brian Quadrino, Greg Broderson, and John Bopp, taking the team to 3-3 on the season.
 

Hofstra Women’s Ultimate Frisbee was on the road again this weekend, braving the bad weather at the Garden State Tournament in Pittsgrove, New Jersey. After a slow start against highly ranked Columbia, the Pride managed to rally together to achieve back-to-back wins against Philadelphia University and The College of New Jersey (13-1 and 12-0 respectively), with standout performances from captains Lauren Curlett and Jaclyn Castoro. The team ended the day with a close 7-5 loss to Temple, but once again showed their bounce back ability with victories against Northeastern, Pennsbury High, and Franklin & Marshall, resulting in an undefeated Sunday. Freshman Caitlyn McCarthy put in an excellent defensive display and the squad came home with a 19th place finish out of 30 teams.

Hofstra Quidditch hosted a Big Apple Quidditch Conference tournament on the Hofstra Intramural Fields onSaturday, March 28th. The Flying Dutchmen earned a 3-1 winning record including victories over Stony Brook and Badassilisks, and looks forward to their fast approaching trip to the Quidditch World Cup in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Hofstra Billiards Organization had a successful trip to Baldwin Billiards on Sunday, March 29th that included stand out performances from Charlotte Wood, Luke Zeolla, and Nolan Whitehead.
