The Fall semester is upon us an the administrators and student staff are busy getting ready for our upcoming programs. Hofstra is a buzz with the last minute preparation for all of our students to arrive to campus! OSLA has been preparing all summer for our programs and we are getting really excited for all of our programs coming up in the next few weeks. Not only are we welcoming new students through the Discovery Program and Welcome Week but, we are making sure to get information out about all the great events planned for the first few weeks through the end of September and Fall Festival.

Ashley Gray, assistant director in OSLA, is really excited about another great year in Discovery. Not only do we have awesome new service sites and trips planned for Community Empowerment, Social Awareness and Sustainable Solutions but, we have collaborated with Recreation and Intramural Sports to plan a new path this summer, Outdoor Exploration. Our 14 Discovery Program leaders will be moving in on Monday August 19th to being their training and getting pumped up to welcome 70 new students for Discovery on August 24th!
While Discovery Program is happening our Welcome Week Coordinators will be training our 80 Welcome Week Leaders. They will be learning the schedule, getting their new student group information and being assigned to various tasks throughout Welcome Week.

Even our Spirit Support students will be getting in to the excitement. Although the Cheer and Dance Teams have already been on campus and at their national pre-camps preparing for their seasons they will come back early to continue training to keep up their national champion status! Pep Band will join us on campus on August 26th for training and the try outs for all our new students to get in to our amazing Pep Band. Supporting our teams is important and all of our Spirit Support groups take their role on campus and their National Champion title very seriously! In addition we had one of our mascots attend mascot camp this summer and are looking forward to adding the new repertoire to our programs for Kate and Willy! Hopefully you can check them all out during their performances at Welcome Week.

In addition, on August 29th we will be welcoming our new Hofstra students. Transfer and Class of 2017 students will be checking in on the intramural fields on Thursday morning and the activities will continue from there. Our Welcome Week Coordinators have been working hard all summer to prepare what will be the best Welcome Week yet for our new students. In addition to the traditional program (such as Sex Rules!, Shot of Reality and American Voices) we will be getting to meet the author of our common read, The Good Food Revolution, Will Allen. He will spend the day speaking to the new students, seeing our garden in the Netherlands and having lunch with our essay contest winners! We will also be having a weekend full of activities such as Explore Next Door trips in to the city, Meet the Greeks, an outdoor movie Now You See Me and a fun night of multiple activities at Hofstra USA where an ice cream truck will have some great treats outside of Hof USA.
In September you will get a look at all that Hofstra has to offer. We will have a sampling of events on our Beyond Welcome Week card which will be handed out during Welcome Week check in and available to all students at various Student Affairs departments around campus.
