In the spirit of the fast approaching Thanksgiving festivities, I
would be remiss in not expressing how fortunate the Hofstra community is to
have such a lively and interactive campus. On any given day, you can stumble
upon an executive speaker at a Frank G. Zarb Business School event, a Common
Hour Compliment on a Random Acts of Kindness Day, or find forty students
doing organized yoga on the Quad. But sometimes, the students and larger
community of Hofstra are fortunate enough to welcome a particularly special
guest to our campus. This week, Hofstra is a buzz with the forward looking
Thanksgiving break, the Men’s Basketball game versus Stony Brook, the Indian
Festival of Lights, and another particularly exciting event. Tonight at 6:00
p.m., Pride PALS and the rest of the Hofstra community welcome Maysoon Zayid,
writer, actress, and hilarious standup comedian, to the Monroe Lecture Hall
stage.
Maysoon was a full-time O-Air Contributor to
Countdown with Keith Olbermann, has recently appeared on the Queen Latifah
Show, spoke at TEDWomen2013, as well as appeared on Comedy Central, PBS,
CNN, HBO, MTV, ABS, and BBC. Not only is Maysoon a successful comedian and
personality in New York City and around the word, she was also a delegate at
the 2008 Democratic National Convention and named one of 21 leaders of the 21st
century by Women’s Enews, is the founder of Maysoon’s Kids, an education and
wellness program for disabled and wounded refugee children, and was a 2013
honoree of United Cerebral Palsy of NYC’s Women Who Care Awards.
Don’t miss out on welcoming this big personality
and conscientious soul into our Hofstra community! The event is open to the
public and anyone is welcome to join in the experience. And admission is FREE!
Bring your friends and family for a wonderful hour of laughs from an amazing
female leader.
