Club Sports Roundup

Hofstra Equestrian Club got their Spring season off to a galloping start on Sunday, March 8th at Suffolk Equestrian Academy. The team brought back a bundle of ribbons including 2nd and 6th place in the Intermediate Over fences event courtesy of Kierstin Berwick and Julissa Hoogeveen. Alie Coolidge earned 1st place in Novice Over Fences, with teammates Charlotte Wood grabbing 4th, and Maria Sorrentino taking fifth in her debut show for the Pride. Julianna Foertsch won her class in Novice Flat and Angela Bottari had a great performance on a challenging pony earning her a 3rd place finish. Lisa Briz, Jacqie Dent, and Casey Feri also registered ribbons. The club will be back in the saddle again on Sunday, March 15th at the NYU Equestrian Show.

Hofstra Quidditch had a charitable evening on Friday, February 27th, attending the New York City Rescue Mission benefit event at Massapequa High School. The NYCRM is America’s oldest rescue mission and has been providing hope, food, clothing and shelter to people in crisis since 1872. The Flying Dutchmen split into teams and played Quidditch in front of 100 spectators from the Massapequa area. The team will next be in action on Saturday, March 28th, when they host the Big Apple Quidditch Conference Tournament at Hofstra.

Hofstra Women’s Club Lacrosse couldn’t quite avenge their close loss from a week earlier against old foe Stony Brook University on Sunday, March 8th, despite coming extremely close. The final score was 12-11 after a valiant comeback from the Pride, who had amassed a 6-1 deficit early on in the game. The team did achieve some consolation with a crushing 14-7 victory over NYU, and will look to take their winning run to two with a match up against Nassau Community College on Thursday, March 12th at Shuart Stadium.

Hofstra Billiards played a handful of matches at Baldwin Billiards on Sunday, March 8th, and will be back in action with an important round of APA matches on Sunday, March 15th at the same venue.

Hofstra Rock Climbing Club had another successful week as 21 members scaled the walls at Brooklyn Boulders on Saturday, March 7th.
