My internship at BBC Worldwide
Hi everybody! I’m George Lee, MBA in Business Analytics Candidate, and President of Zarb Asian Pacific Student Association (ZAPSA). Currently, I’m interning at BBC Worldwide.
I found this internship opportunity online. Before I started applying for internships, I had met with the career advisors at ZARB Graduate Business Career Services many times. They were really kindhearted and helpful. They helped me change my resume, my cover letter and gave me a lot of valuable advice about the internship application. After changing my resume and cover letter, I sent them to more than 100 companies on four different websites including internships.com, internmatch.com, LinkedIn and indeed.com. Then five companies interviewed me and three of them gave me an offer at the end.
I choose to intern at BBC not only because it is the world’s most trusted media, but also because when you work for an international company, you can learn to think about things from an International Perspective. For instance, as a Multiplatform Research Intern, I often organize reports about the BBC’s performance in many different countries, which gives me opportunities to learn something about international media industry. What’s more, in such a great company, you can always find chances to learn from the brilliant people around you. During my internship last year, I joined a meeting with the President of BBC Worldwide Americas and the President of AMC TV Network, learned from their leadership experience and had a better understanding of the Broadcast Industry. I also got the opportunity to meet with the Senior Vice President of BBC Worldwide Americas, and he told me a lot of things about his career experience and gave me much important advice. The people in my department are also really nice and helpful. They taught me how to use different online platforms, how to organize and analyze different kinds of reports and how to improve my professional skills.
As far as I am concerned, an internship experience is extremely important for students to get ready for the future career. Please try your best to find an ideal internship and work really hard for it. “Do something today that you will thank yourself for tomorrow!” Good luck!
