Hofstra Makes Strides Against Breast Cancer

This past Sunday, October 16, 2011 Hofstra University traveled to Jones Beach to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. This is the third year that the Office of Student Leadership and Activities (OSLA) joined the Hofstra community in participating in the walk and it is turning into one of our favorite service traditions! The OSLA team consisted of almost 30 students some of which were members of Imani, the Black Student Union, and the Discovery Club. Overall there were 18 Hofstra teams that walked on Sunday, with close to 250 Hofstra community members total in attendance. Together we raised over $8,000, thanks in part to the Dance Department Team bringing in the most with $2,640! So make sure to stop by the Dance Department and congratulate them on a job well done! I would also like to give a shout out to Alpha Phi who had the most registered participants for the walk with 32 in total. As a whole, the walk at Jones Beach brought in over $2,900,000 (yes you are reading that correctly, it says almost 3 million dollars!) and had more than 55,000 participants! Donations are still being accepted and the walk at Jones Beach is currently only $100,000 behind the top Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in the entire nation! Congratulations to everyone in the Hofstra community who helped make this walk for such an important cause to many such an incredible success. You should be very proud!
