Hello from the Office of Student Leadership and Activities!
February is known for a lot of things: it's Black History month, the month of loooove, and the groundhog tells us all about the upcoming weather patterns. But, as you may have guessed from the title of this post, this is also the month of the Superbowl! Whether you love the game, the food, or the commercials, the Superbowl is an American staple which we all hold near and dear in one capacity or another. To celebrate the big day, OSLA held some great events to allow our Hofstra students to show their P.R.I.D.E.!
Every Friday in each semester, we hold First Friday events in Hofstra USA that always hold a different theme and are always a blast. For the first First Friday in February, we decided on a football theme, of course! From 7:00pm - 9:00pm, we showed our P.R.I.D.E. in Be on Display for the Big Game!, where students posed with football gear and other wacky accessories to support their favorite team and be featured on our Facebook page (and everyone got very creative in their poses...lots of fun)!
On Sunday, for the big game, we held a viewing party, entitled The SOUPerbowl Party (cute, huh?). At this event, we served buffalo wings, chili and New England Clam Chowder as we cheered on the Ravens and the 49ers - and Beyonce! - on the big screen(s). The turnout was great; bunches of students came down to Hofstra USA to hang out, laugh at some crazy commercials, and watch the Ravens take the game 34-31 (ah, so close!). It was a great way to ring in the new semester and get together for a fun-filled night of food, and cheering as a Hofstra pride!
The semester has only just begun! If you want to find out about more OSLA like these two, "like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @HofstraOSLA!
