The Internship Fair is Almost Here!

The Career Center will be hosting a Spring Internship Fair next Wednesday March 13th from 11a.m.-1p.m. in the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. All employers at this fair are looking to hire students for internships!  (We will also be hosting a Career Fair on April24th for employers looking for students to fill full-time an part-time job opportunities.)

A career fair is a wonderful opportunity to NETWORK!  Employers who are attending this fair are doing so to meet and recruit students for available internships. This fair is your chance to make an impression on an employer and network in person, rather than simply submitting a resume. You can stand out beyond the resume and make a lasting positive impression.  Many students are given interviews based on their interaction at a career fair with a recruiter.  If you want to be one of those lucky students, here are some simple tips:

·      I highly recommend before the fair you come to The Career Center to have your resume reviewed. If you need to start one, please contact the office so our staff can help you get one started.
·      Get your dress clothes ready!  How you dress and present yourself is very important. Look professional, like you would for an interview.
·      Take time to research the employers who are attending the fair. This way you can plan to use your time wisely. Click here for a list of participating organizations. Be mindful that almost every company has a Human Resources Department, a marketing/PR department, and Finance and Accounting area. So even if you don’t see a certain type of employer at the fair, don’t be afraid to walk up to the employer and explore all options.

Would you like more tips?  We are hosting a “Prepare for the Fair” workshop on Wednesday, March 6th at 3pm at The Career Center.

Can’t make the event on Wednesday? You can also view our “How to Work a Job Fair” webshop on Blackboard.  Sign up here to register for our Blackboard class.
