Student groups,
offices, and individuals in Hofstra’s community are continuously active in
giving back through service trips/activities and fundraisers. This semester the Office of Student
Leadership and Activities has a plethora of service activities and
opportunities to give back. We encourage
individuals, student groups, offices, and departments to join together to make
a greater impact.
Hofstra Cares Service
Projects—Each month OSLA selects an organization in the Long Island or New
York communities to volunteer with; this semester there will be three
opportunities.
First, OSLA will join the organization Rebuilding Together NYC on Saturday, October 11th. Participants will help to rehabilitate homes
and revitalize communities to make them safe and healthy. Sign Ups will be in OSLA, 260 Student Center
beginning Monday, September 29th.
Spaces are limited, so sign up ahead of time.
Second, students will have an opportunity to participate in
the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
walk on Sunday, October19th. A bus
will be provided for the first 40 students who sign up in OSLA, 260 Student
Center. This is a great opportunity for
those who do not have transportation to the site to join their student
organizations and other members of the Hofstra community who are walking that
day.
Third, students can sign up to participate in a day of service at the
Mary Brennan INN on Friday, November 14th. Hofstra has partnered with the INN for many
years and we are excited to bring more students to experience the service in
our immediate community. Spaces are limited,
so please sign up in OSLA, SC 260 beginning October 29th.

Socktober—Made
famous by Kid President, Socktober is a month long collection of new socks
which will be distributed to the homeless.
According to Kid President “There are 600,000 people without a home on
any given night in the United States.
This October we want one million people to prove that even the smallest
acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the
lives of the homeless!” Donations will
be distributed to NYC homeless during the Midnight Run as well as serve the
patrons of the INN. Bring your socks to
260 Student Center any day in the Month of October.

Long Island. Students are asked to RSVP
to the Hunger Banquet on Monday, November
